A Saturday Special By George Koh
(KNN) -- Following the Media Development Authority of Singapore's (MDA) recent release of figures from a new study on Internet literacy, the blogosphere in general has received a boost in readership. Among the many figures released, the one figure that stood out was the number of blogs maintained by local teenagers. Almost half of all teens in Singapore aged 15 to 19 are on the Internet, blogging or podcasting, and this number is set to grow. This means that there are some 120, 000 or so blogs by these youngsters online. Recent years have seen many individuals making a name for themselves through their interesting and sometimes controversial comments posted in their blogs. In fact, they are already household names to both the young and the old. Who wouldn't have heard of Mr Brown, Xiaxue, Rockson (and his horse), or Sarong Party Girl aka Miss Izzy (to the loyal FHM readers)?
Today, new personalities start to rise up from this 120, 000 inspired and sometimes disillusioned young people. Karbon8ed aka jia. Micah (pronounced meee2 car3). More prominently, the man of bigbrohu.blogspot.com fame who goes by the moniker of Takumi Hu. George Koh goes undercover to look at the real side of this man.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The blogosphere has fallen head over heels in love with Takumi, aka BigBroHu, aka Tikor, and it is not hard to see why. Over the last couple of months, he has added vibrancy and joy to the world of blogging. Internet users, bored from the usual Friendster and wholivesnearyou crap, have once again found motivation in moving their mice to click on the Internet Explorer and type ' www.bigbrohu.blogspot.com', whether it is after a hard day of work at an English bank, a tired day at the university, or a wasted week at the army camp. a recent study showed that 100% of the *local young people being surveyed said that the all-time favourite blog which enabled them to laugh at nonsense was none other than Takumi's (* a total of 2 people were surveyed).
For the uninitiated, www.bigbrohu.blogspot.com, in general, is about the chronicles of Takumi Hu, a self-professed influential triad leader in Singapore (if you still have no idea hu he is, you will not be blamed, but please pray hard that he will spare your family) who has links with the hus hu of the Hong Kong underworld. Some of the issues close to his heart include the stories of one of his more 'prominent'(in the physical sense) ginas (gangland slang for subordinates), juggling national service liability with his unlawful dealings, and to some extent, working very hard to providing an alternative place for intellectuals to gather and share their ideas to make the world a better place.
However, it has been widely circulated that all this is just a farce. The reporter, together with his/her (gender has been withheld to protect his/her family) team of informants from within his network, have managed to find the truth behind this man of lies and disillusionment.

*Gasp!* So hu are his loyal ginas?
Lie No. 1
He wrote: "In the pic above, just one of my numerous fan groups smiling widely, celebrating about the fact that bigbrohu.blogspot.com is going to be updated this weekend ."
We found out: After interviews and chats with the people featured in the photographs, the team found out that none of them knew Takumi personally or even went to his blog before, much less anticipate any updates.
Lie No. 2
He reasoned: "In those days, I was subject to physical torture, intimidation and also at times stimulation.Although Ti Kor already have primary school ginas back then,he decided not to use them just to allow the class to bond together in making Ti Kor go through such S-M methods."
We say: The first sentence was the truth. We are not so sure about the next.
Misleading Quote No. 3
He hallucinated: "Also, there are not many places in boring Singapore where you can see 20 or more people engaging in a mass brawl.:) As the techno music plays, the shouts of the various gang poems resonate with such melodious charm, you can't help but think that although these guys are less educated, they definitely have some sort of musical talent hidden within them"
We say: Give the lad some credit for being half-truthful. He just didnt mention that he normally appreciates the orchestra by squatting and trembling in a hidden corner of the club or under a table.
Lie No. 4
He boasted: "To my parents(if they are reading this):Have fun in Japan, please visit my training ground Mt Akina and I'm sure the people there will be thrilled to know that their racing god's parents are actually in town ."
We found out: He has got nice parents, but he's no racing god. Defaces his father's car every other time he uses it. Walks out of the car to insert cashcard at the carpark. Dumb or different? You decide.

Lie No. 5
He dreamt: "A big thank you to them, there will be a discount on the protection money dued to us next month"
We say: Protection money?? The last we found out, this poor (in both senses) dude has only $40 left in his bank account. In addition to that, sources close to the informants say that he is in debt.
However, having said that, readers (some even call themselves fanatics) still welcome and embrace this personality with all their hearts. The team of informants found out that some of them volunteer their help in helping Hu to post videos featuring him and his gang on the popular YouTube website. Rumour has it that a couple of them are even helping him launch his own line of TI-kor merchandise, which includes TI-shirts for TInagers, TI-Rex toys for young children, plasma TI-Vs for adults and TI-Mac basketball sneakers for NBA wannabes. Launch of this highly anticipated line is believed to be scheduled for early February 2007.
When asked about whether more fans will continue to be conned but yet still be attracted to Hu's wacky style of blogging, Mr Tarcoo Mee, Minister of Blogosphere, simply said: "The revolution has already begun".
